Lafayette's Legendary Stage, Beds, and Cold Beer

Live Cajun and zydeco music, no-frills lodging, and a backyard vibe that only 215 E Convent can deliver.

About Us

On a quiet side street in Lafayette, Louisiana, there is a place that resists every attempt to clean it up and make it corporate. Blue Moon Saloon & Guest House has earned a 4.6-star reputation from over 420 visitors not by being polished, but by being absolutely, stubbornly real. The stage is small. The yard is open. The music is loud enough to feel it in your chest, and the crowd is the kind that came to actually listen.

The guest house side is simple by design. Bunk-style rooms and shared spaces attract travelers who want to wake up exactly where the party ended, swap road stories over coffee, and catch an open mic night or a headlining Cajun act without ever moving their car. It is hostel-meets-honky-tonk, and it works because nobody pretends otherwise.

This is the kind of spot a local will point you toward when they decide you are worth trusting with a real recommendation. First-timers show up skeptical and leave already planning the return trip.

What We Offer

Blue Moon runs on two parallel tracks: live music and a place to sleep it off. The saloon hosts original Louisiana acts most nights of the week, from zydeco and Cajun two-step to roots rock and singer-songwriter open mic sessions. Grab a cold can or a bottle from the bar, find a spot in the backyard, and let the night sort itself out.

The guest house offers affordable, no-frills lodging steps from the stage. Rooms are straightforward and clean, ideal for festival-goers during Festival International or Jazz Fest weekends, touring musicians who need a crash pad, or any traveler who values character over thread count. Private room options and shared accommodations are available depending on the season.

Blue Moon also books the venue for private events, listening parties, and community gatherings. If you want a room that smells like sawdust and sounds like Louisiana, this is it.

"Blue Moon is one of those places where you can tap into genuine and authentic, where you get the epitome of immersion in an amazing slice of the real world. The accommodations are simple and just what you need. The saloon ranges around the property, all covered tho mostly open-air sections with a small stage that instantly creates connection ‘tween the band and the audience. The bands are having a ball playing here and that delight pours out in the music. The staff just naturally demonstrate the word “hospitality” - because that’s truly who they are as people. The crowd is energetic, mellow, and happy - people you’ve never met will instantly call you “my friend” ‘cause that’s how people are in Lafayette. Blue Moon is easy distance to a profusion of the best food you’ll ever find along with an excellent variety of arts and culture. Stay in the Balcony Room and you can move between mingling downstairs or totally grooving to the tunes while mellow on your own little balcony just a bit above the flow. Reserve your room and be ready to enjoy it so deeply that you will book your next visit before you leave - you’re going to want more! Enjoy!"

"I have not slept there or rented any rooms. I have attended shows and had drinks etc. I wouldn't get a mixed drink there. I only drink canned or bottled things. Cocktails aren't really a thing there. The bathrooms are hot and smelly and single stall. Sinks are outside. Acoustics are always awful to me. Still...it's an interesting place to check out."

"We went on open mic night. Form my niece's first time playing live and we have to say that we had a wonderful time. And it was great to hear all the musicians. The only drawback is, there's not very much seating, so be prepared to stand a while. But other than that, it's a great place to hang out.Have a drink?Listen to live music and enjoy yourself. Also, Ms. Nancy is wonderful to talk to and get to know she's like the MC"

"This place seems really cool. They regularly host live music and staff a nice little bar when they do. Plus, even with the regular live music, many US drivers and motorcyclists on nearby Johnston Street are often louder even when standing in the front of the property (the music at Artmosphere is usually louder); one has to appreciate the respect for the neighborhood."

"Barmaid was passively rude from the minute I walked up to the bar, began chatting with someone she knew who had walked up right after me. It was not overly busy so no reason that I stood there for like 2-3 minutes and was never waited on. When she finished chatting she still didn't acknowledge me. I had to tell her I’d like a Michelob Ultra which she got for me and I didn't get change off my $5 bill. Kinda steep but everything is expensive so not too big a deal. I sat on a barstool then after my beer I went to bathroom. Came out my stool was occupied by a guy. But there was still enough room at the bar so I just stood at the bar. The barmaid knew the guy n evidently he’d asked her about upcoming events bc she was naming quite a few musical acts plus what night they'd be there. I recognized one name n it's a band I’ve been wanting to see so when she finished I asked her what night were they gonna be. She answered and added that there's a sign in the driveway of upcoming events. Well it took me about a minute to realize this: someone she knows asks for info n she has no problem reciting names n dates but when I ask my question that required a one sentence response she answers but then tells me about their sign out in driveway LOL I waited until I was about to leave n the guy asked her something about who was playing Friday n after she answered I looked at him with a smile n said “ There’s a sign in the drivessy” Then looked at her n said “ Yeah took me a minute to catch it but I did “ The guy looked uncomfortable she never said anything never asked what I was talking about so for me that says I was correct. Idk if she's related to the owners or what but I guarantee she's not good for business bc she acted same way to almost everyone unless she knew them. Blue Moon is a great place with talented musicians n it's sad bc people like her ruin the vibe. If she's not related the owners must not be aware of her behavior. Hope this changes that."
